Decrease stress hormones and increase the “Feel Good” hormones in 30 minutes….

Tip #7:  30 minutes of exercise can significantly improve moods, reduce our stress level, prevent the onset on diseases, boost our sex life, give us more energy, make us more fun to be around…

Experts say lack of physical activity contributes to some 300,000 deaths each year in the United States caused by heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other conditions. ( Well, we will all eventually die.. but, maybe we can work towards living a good life with optimum health!)

According to several studies, the top reason why people don’t exercise is due to lack of time in busy schedules.  How can we not make time for something that improves our mood, gets us in better physical shape, reduces the risk of diseases, boost our sex life,  gives us more energy, makes us more alert?  Just 30 minutes of exercise daily can significantly improve our health.

Here is the mind-body connection – why we feel better when we exercise:

  • The stress hormones such as cortisol is decreased
  • The “feel good” chemicals, endorphins are released from our brain  as well as adrenaline, serotonin and dopamine… and your mood is boosted naturally.
  • Our blood sugar is lowered and this helps our cells accept insulin more efficiently

My mom was diagnosed to be diabetic about the age of 60 – by this time, it was already in the advance stages!  For over 13 years, this horrible condition brought an onset of health complications – she lost her vision, lost her independence, was on insulin injections for over 10 years, had strokes and heart complications until she died at 73. I don’t know whether it could have been prevented but what I do know, is that I can be proactive in reducing or preventing the impact of something which I am genetically prone to.  Two main factors that can be controlled are diet and exercise.

After 2 months of being out of my exercise routine feeling quite sluggish with extra pounds,  I have just started my routine again. This week I went out for brisk walks at lunch time and on Friday evening, I joined in a Zumba class and danced for an hour. I felt wonderful at the end of it.  Today, I will go to the gym and next week, begin my gym routine for 3 days a week with the support of a friend….

Don’t try to think too hard about doing it… just do it!  Decide on a physical activity establish a routine, get someone to support you ….think of all the wonderful benefits to your wonderful body… and how you will serve everyone around you better…. Just do it for you!!! 

Feel Good  and Look Good by simply exercising!!!
